Revisiting the Past: The Emmetts’ Meaningful Weekend at Toganmain

Robert and Kaye Emmett, from Horsham, Victoria, recalled a weekend spent working at Toganmain in August.

While there, they met “Magic Mick,” a fellow volunteer whose energy and commitment earned him his nickname — especially when helping install the new water tank beside the toilets.

The weekend stirred many connections for Robert. He remembered that Jim Stewart, Mick’s uncle, had once worked with him at Telecom. Jim’s grandfather is buried at Toganmain. The Emmetts also visited Boonoke Station, where Robert’s father and grandfather had worked as shearers’ cooks in 1926. That visit held special meaning, as Robert’s father passed away when he was just four. They looked forward to returning to Toganmain for the 150th anniversary.
